Who Can Apply For A Duplicate Driving License?

An individual can apply for a duplicate driving license in the following scenarios:

• If an individual has misplaced his/her driving license
• If the driving license becomes severely damaged, thus making it unreadable.
• If the photograph on the driving license needs to be replaced
• When the driving license expires

Documents Essential for Duplicate Driving License

Here is a list of documents required to apply for a duplicate driving license. This list may or may not vary across states.

• An application form filled correctly and signed by you
• A No Objection Certificate from the police station under whose jurisdiction you live currently is required if you have moved to a new address after getting your original driving license.
• If your original license was damaged, then the remains of the damaged license
• An affidavit declaring that your original driving license is misplaced or stolen.
• Two passport-size photographs
• Details about the original driving license like DL number, date of issue, and validity.
• Address proof (rent agreement, utility bill, etc.)
• A copy of your Identity proof (Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, voter's ID, etc.)
• A copy of your First Information Report or FIR if the license was stolen

Step-by-step Guide to Apply for a Duplicate Driving Licence Online

Step 1:Go to the Parivahan Sewa Portal

Step 2:Choose “Services on Driving License”. A new page will open

Step 3: On the new page, choose the state you are residing in from the dropdown menu.

Step 4: On the new page, search for the option "Apply for Duplicate License" and click it.

Step 5: You will be forwarded to the application form. Fill in the details asked for with accuracy.

Step 6: Upload scanned copies of necessary documents, such as FIR copy (if applicable), address proof, identity proof, and passport-sized photographs. Ensure that the documents meet the size and format requirements specified.

Step 7: Make the fee payment using any one of the online modes of payment available

Step 8: After submitting the application, you can check the status on the portal by entering the application or reference number. The portal will show the progress of your application from submission to approval to dispatch.

How to Apply for a Duplicate Driving License Offline?

Step 1: File an FIR (First Information Report) at your local police station

Step 2: Obtain the LLD form from the RTO or download it from their official website.

Step 3: Fill in the details required in the LLD form

Step 4: Attach a copy of the FIR, identity proof documents, address proof documents, and passport-size photographs. Ensure that you have the originals also.

Step 5: Submit the application form along with the documents at the Local RTO, where your original license was issued.

Step 6: Pay the application fee and get the receipt for future reference.

How to Track The Application Status of the Duplicate Driving License?

Step 1: Go to the official portal of Parivahan Sewa

Step 2: Search for the option, “Online Services” on the Parivahan portal.

Step 3: From the drop-down menu, select the option ‘Driving Licence Related Services’.A new page will open.

Step 4: Select your state of residence from the drop-down menu

Step 5: Select the option for "Application Status" present on the top right corner of the page and click on it.

Step 6: Enter the required details such as your DL application number, date of birth, and other requested information.

Step 7: Fill in the Captcha code shown on your screen.

Step 8: Click the 'Submit' button and wait for the system to retrieve your application status.

Reasons to Apply For a Duplicate Driving License

• Loss or theft: If your original driving license has been misplaced or stolen, you will have to apply for a duplicate license to replace it.
• Damage or deterioration: If your original driving license has been damaged to an extent that it is not clear to read, you can apply for a duplicate DL.
• Updation of personal details: If there is a change in the personal information or any other details provided on your driving license, you may have to apply for a new duplicate license to update it.
• Expired license: You cannot drive with an expired license as it is illegal. So, in case of expiry, apply for a new one.
• International travel: Some countries may need you to have a duplicate international driving permit along with your regular driving license while traveling overseas. This permit functions as a translation of your current driving license in different languages.
