Customers can link their Aadhaar with their Vodafone mobile connection in a few simple steps. In spite of popular opinion on the obligation of Aadhaar for various public services, many service providers seem to favour its usability. Telecom operators have encouraged linking of Aadhaar with mobile connections as it provides a single point of verification of the applicants’ credentials.

Aadhaar was introduced with the objective of eliminating fake or fraud connections. Aadhaar being a centralized data storage mechanism, helped in putting a check on people obtaining multiple connections with the intention of using it for illegal doings or other criminal purposes.

It is very easy and simple to link your Aadhaar to your Vodafone mobile connection. There are a few ways to do it. This article enumerates the steps for you.

Many of us would have already registered our mobile number with our Aadhaar number. What if you have more than one Vodafone mobile connection? Then you have to approach your nearest Vodafone store to link all the connections in your name to your Aadhaar number. This can be done only at a Vodafone store and not online. You will just need a self-attested copy of your Aadhaar and don’t forget to carry the active Vodafone number you want to link, along with you.

Step 1: Walk in to the nearest Vodafone showroom

Step 2: Mention your Vodafone number and submit a self-attested copy of Aadhaar to the store executive

Step 3: The store assistant will use the re-verification application and send an OTP to your mobile number

Step 4: Along with the OTP, you will be required to verify your biometrics (fingerprint) information

Step 5: Vodafone will send you an SMS for confirmation

Step 6: You have to reply ‘Y’ to this message to complete the linking

If your mobile number is already registered with UIDAI under your Aadhaar number, the process is very simple. Please follow the below steps

Step 1: Call the toll-free number 14546. This number is common for all telecom operators, whether prepaid or postpaid connections

Step 2: Press the correct option to confirm whether you are an Indian citizen or an NRI

Step 3: Press 1 to give consent to your operator for re-verifying your number with Aadhaar

Step 4: You will be required to enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number. The IVR will read it back and you can confirm it by pressing 1

Step 5: An OTP will be sent to your mobile number

Step 6: You are again asked to give consent to your operator to verify your personal details like name, photo and DOB from the UIDAI database

Step 7: The IVR will repeat the last 4 digits of your mobile number

Step 8: If it is correct you need to enter the OTP received

Step 9: In the next step you can add your other Vodafone numbers under the same Aadhaar

Step 10: Press 0 in case you do not have any additional Vodafone connections

Step 11: Your Aadhaar re-verification request will be successfully accepted

Step 12: You will receive an SMS asking for your confirmation within 24 hours

You can easily link Aadhaar with your mobile connection by following the instructions on the Vodafone Customer Care IVR. The steps are given below

Step 1: Call the Vodafone toll free customer care number

Step 2: On the IVR, select the option ‘Link Aadhaar with Mobile Number’

Step 3: Enter your 12 digit Aadhaar number. The IVR will read it back and you can confirm it by pressing 1.

Step 4: Within 24 hours, you will receive an SMS confirming that your Aadhaar has been linked with your Vodafone number.

Please note that this method will work only if the mobile number is the one registered to your Aadhaar on the UIDAI database.

As discussed earlier in this article, though there are speculations on the implementation of Aadhaar for various public services, it is still considered by many service providers as a hassle free, one stop identity verification instrument. With digital platforms gaining traction in the economic stage all over the country, Aadhaar serves as a fail safe method of identity management for availing various financial services. Some of the ways Aadhaar has been used in Identity Management are discussed below:

e-Auth: This is the most common usage of Aadhaar, for organisations to conduct electronic identity verification using biometrics and obtain an electronic identity document. The method is very cost-effective and removes the need for paper documentation.

e-KYC: This is a very important function that enables customers to authorize service providers like banks, mutual fund agencies, insurance providers, stock brokers, etc. to verify their identity and get an e-copy of their identity documents.

e-Sign: This utility is fast catching up with the digital population. It acts as a digital signature and enables them to electronically sign documents using Aadhaar e-KYC services. Both the parties involved in the agreement can use this facility to electronically sign the document using their 12-digit Aadhaar number and the mobile number registered with it, without being physically present.
