What is mAadhaar?

The mAadhaar mobile app is the official app of UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), the statutory body responsible for maintaining all Aadhaar data and related services.

The app was released for Android in 2017. Now, it’s available for both Android and iOS.

Salient Features of the mAadhaar App

Dashboard – You can access an array of Aadhaar services like ordering a reprint of your Aadhaar card, updating your address, verifying an Aadhaar number, scanning a QR code, generating VID (Virtual ID) and offline eKYC for your Aadhaar number and more.

My Aadhaar – This is a personalised section that holds your Aadhaar details like – your 12-digit UID (Unique Identification Number), demographics, and biometric data. It also allows you to lock/unlock your biometric data, as per your requirements.

Enrolment Center Locator – Use this feature to locate an enrolment center near you to update/correct your data. You can search for a center using your pin code, state, or city.

Status Dashboard – This is a single point of access to check the status of all your online Aadhaar service requests.

Miscellaneous – Besides the features listed here, the app also contains FAQs on Aadhaar services, about the app, and other terms and conditions of using the app.

How to get started using the mAadhaar app?

  • To start using this app, visit Google Play, or Apple Store. Search for mAadhaar and download and install it.
  • Once you open the app, you will be prompted to provide consent for UIDAI to collect your Aadhaar number and OTP.
  • Once you click on “I consent,” the language English will be chosen as the default option.
  • Click on, continue, and enter your registered mobile number. Note that you have to register a mobile number with your Aadhaar to be able to use the mAadhaar app.
  • An OTP is sent to your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP to start using the app.
  • Next, click on “Register my Aadhaar” to link your Aadhaar number with the mobile app.
  • You will be prompted to create a 4-digit password for using the app.
  • Then enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.
  • Once your Aadhaar number is verified, you can see a digital copy of your Aadhaar card on the app.
  • That’s it. You have successfully linked your Aadhaar to the app. You can now use it to avail of any of the services offered.

How to lock/unlock biometric data using the mAadhaar app?

  • Log into the mAadhaar app using your 4-digit password.
  • Under “My Aadhaar,” tap click on lock/unlock biometrics.
  • Select the enable the biometric lock to toggle it between lock/unlock.
  • You will notice a disclaimer saying that your biometrics data may be available for the next six hours.
  • Click on Ok; enter the received OTP, and your biometrics data are locked from authentication uses by service providers.
  • To unlock, follow the same steps, and just toggle the lock to unlock.

Can I delete my profile from the mAadhaar app?

Yes. You can delete your profile from the mAadhaar app using the following steps:

  • Open the app, enter your 4-digit passcode
  • Tap on the mAadhaar tab, and tap the three vertical dots on the top right of the screen.
  • Choose “delete profile.”
  • You will have to re-enter the passcode before you can delete your profile.

Once you delete your profile, all your details are cleared from the mAadhaar app.


  • A user can add a maximum of up to three different Aadhaar profiles in the mAadhaar app. All profiles must be registered under the same mobile number. This is handy, especially as different members of a family use the same mobile number for their Aadhaar services.
  • It’s not possible to add the profile of an Aadhaar that is registered under another mobile number.
  • The mAadhaar app works on Android devices (above Android 5.0) as well as iOS devices.
  • It does not work on rooted mobiles.
  • The mAadhaar app connects with the servers of UIDAI to download data. So, make sure that your mobile phone has stable internet connectivity while using the app.
  • An Aadhaar profile can be active only on one device at a time. If you use the same SIM on another mobile device, the previous profile is made inactive and is deleted.
  • To use the mAadhaar app, make sure that your mobile number is linked with your Aadhaar.
  • You can use the mAadhaar for downloading paperless eKYC that you can share with service providers.
  • The Indian railways allow for verification of ID, by showing the Aadhaar card on the mAadhaar app.
