What is UPI and why is it popular?

UPI is fast becoming the preferred mode of online or digital payment. UPI stands for Unified Payments Interface where the users can transfer money or make payments to any person or merchants anytime and from anywhere. UPI was introduced by the NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) as a mode of digital payments by linking the unique UPI id to one or more valid and active bank accounts of the users.

UPI payments can be made to other bank accounts too without the need to enter the card number, account number, branch details, IFSC code, etc. UPI has made digital payments a countrywide reality and has made it possible for the smallest of the vendors to the large corporations to be a part of the Digital India Vision in the true sense. Among other payments, UPI can be easily used to make credit card payments by the cardholder for credit cards of various banks.

UPI was launched in 2016 and has gained countrywide acceptance and popularity as a preferred mode of payment for small or big transactions. There are many safety checks and transaction limits put in place to safeguard the funds of the users and ensure that the payments are secure.
