Introduction

Indian passports can be issued to all the resident citizens of the country. Who can apply for the Senior Citizen Passport?

A senior citizen as per the guidelines of the passport laws of India is any citizen that is over 65 years of age. In case the applicant is a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, the age criterion is different in case of men and women. A person resident of Jammu and Kashmir will be eligible for senior citizen passport in the following cases,

  • When a man turns 65 years of age
  • When a woman turns 60 years of age

This rule is confined only in case of residents of Jammu and Kashmir and is not applicable anywhere else in the country. This rule will not be applicable even in case of Government Officials who are simply deployed in this region.

The above rule is applicable only in case of citizens born in Jammu and Kashmir or has their permanent or current address in this region.

What are the Documents needed for Passport Application of Senior Citizens?

The passport application for senior citizens has to be accompanied by a pre-set list of documents that are needed to complete the application and ensure the eligibility of the applicant. These documents are basic KYC documents and are enlisted on the website of the online passport application portal.

The details of the documents needed are mentioned below.

Address Proof

The applicant can submit any of the following documents as part of the address proof as approved by the passport application guidelines.

  • Latest Utility Bills
  • Income Tax Assessment Order
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Rent Agreement
  • Copy of the Bank Passbook having the Photograph of the applicant
  • Certificate from Employer of reputed companies on letter head 
  • Election Commission Photo ID Card

Proof of Date of Birth

The applicant can submit any of the following documents as part of the address proof as approved by the passport application guidelines.

  • Birth Certificate
  • Transfer or School Leaving or Matriculation Certificate
  • PAN Card
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Driving License
  • Pension Order
  • Election Photo ID Card

Any of the above documents can be submitted by the applicant for the valid passport application. The documents have to be submitted digitally and then later submitted at the PSK for further processing.

What is the application procedure for the passport of senior citizens?

The rules and guidelines of passport application for senior citizens provide such citizens the benefit of walking in at the nearest PSK for passport application without taking any prior appointment. All the other rules and procedures of the passport application procedure will remain the same as in case of any ordinary passport application. The passport application for senior citizens is not any special passport for such category but just like any ordinary passport issued to any eligible Indian Citizens.

The applicant will have to make an online passport application by filling the required application form and submitting the relevant documents. After that the applicant will have to pay the fees for the passport application online. There are no separate charges apart from the payment of fees.

Post online submission of documents and application form, the applicant will have to physically be present at the Passport Seva Kendra. There the applicant can directly go to the counter that is assigned specifically for the senior citizens and carry on the further procedure.

The next step is to provide the biometrics of the applicant which is essential for processing the passport application.

After completing all the procedures at the PSK, the next step for the passport sanction is police verification. Every passport is issued only after completion of the police verification process.

After the above procedures are duly complied with, the passport of the applicant will be issued and sent to the current address of the applicant as provided by them in the passport application.

What are the timings of Passport Seva Kendra for Walk-In Appointment?

Senior Citizens can walk-in to their nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) for passport application after submitting the same through the online mode. There they can submit the print out of the passport application along with the copy of documents submitted, directly at the specific counter that is assigned for the senior citizens. The timings for the Passport Seva Kendra for such walk-in appointments are mentioned below.
