India is a land of traditions and rich culture. But the status of women in our country, even in the 21st century, is in serious distress. Women are subject to many socio-evil practices like female infanticide, child marriages, domestic violence, etc which are a great peril to our society. The government of our country has therefore come out with many welfare schemes over the decades that strive for the betterment of the status of the women in the country. These schemes are sometimes in combination or association with the state government or are also sole projects of the state government. One such state government scheme is the Karnataka Bhagyashree Scheme.
The Bhagyashree Scheme is a welfare scheme initiated by the state government of Karnataka. This scheme aims at raising the status of females in the remotest parts of the state especially in the lower income groups that lack access to good education. The scheme provides financial assistance to the females of the state depending on their age group. The scheme aims to ultimately remove the stigma associated with the birth of a female child and promote their education to give them equal opportunities to thrive and make a better future for themselves and their families.
