Bulk PAN Verification – How To Guide

External agencies are given the facility to use the ‘Verify Bulk PAN/TAN’ service. The Central Government, State Government Departments or undertakings, and recognized autonomous bodies are examples of external agencies. Entities must register for access to the portal by submitting a requisition letter.

Once approved as an external agency on the e-Filing portal, they can use the services for bulk PAN / TAN verification. External agencies can use this service to upload bulk PAN / TAN query templates and to verify PAN / TAN on the e-Filing portal. It also enables you to view previous token details.

This service is only available to external agencies, who must:

  • Be a registered user with a valid user ID and password on the e-Filing portal.
  • Download the most recent Bulk PAN / TAN query template from the e-Filing portal (using this service)

There are three methods for completing the PAN Verification online –

Option 1: Only verify one PAN at a time

External Agencies include both non-government and government organizations that can register as PAN verification agencies and verify as many PAN card details as they want. Agencies such as the DGFT, CBEC, FIU, banks, UTIISL, NSDL, and MCA fall into this category. On the Income Tax India E-Filing website, a government website, the process of bulk PAN verification is available.

What Is The Process To Verify PAN In Bulk?

The bulk verification process is done on the income tax e-filing portal. Here is a step by step guide for you to follow –

Step 1: Enter your user ID and password into the e-Filing portal.

Step 2: Select Verify Bulk PAN / TAN from the menu.

Step 3: Select the query (PAN / TAN) and then click Download Template.

You can enter up to 100 entries with the required details in the Bulk PAN Query Template (CSV format) – PAN, First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, Date of Birth/Incorporation/Formation (DD-MMM-YYYY), Gender, and Name of Organization.

Create a JSON file after successful validation. Remember that the Last Name is required for an Individual PAN. The Name of the Organization is required for Non-Individual PAN.

Step 4: After filling out the template and generating the JSON file for upload, choose the type of query you want to upload: When performing a Bulk PAN Query or a Bulk TAN Query, click Attachment and select the appropriate file from your computer.

Step 5: After attaching your file, click Upload. A token number is generated upon successful upload. Along with the Transaction ID and Token Number, a success message is displayed. Please keep the Transaction ID and Token Number handy for future reference. You will also receive a confirmation email to the email address you registered with on the e-Filing portal.

Step 6: Click Previous Token Details to view the details and status of the tokens generated.

You will be able to see the token's life cycle (Query Submitted / Query Processed) as well as the current status (Processed / Pending). Filter your queries by clicking the funnel-shaped button in the top-right corner above the token details listing.

Step 7: Click Download File on the token if you want to download the verified details of a specific query. A.csv format file will be downloaded to your computer.

Step 8: The information from the bulk PAN query you uploaded will be compared to the information in the CBN database and recorded in a.csv file for each token. You will be able to see which details match and if the PAN exists in the.csv file you download.

How Do I Register For Bulk PAN Verification As An Authorized Agency?

1. Log on to the Indian Government's Tax E-filing website and click 'Register Yourself' on the homepage.

2. To select a user type, click the 'Bulk PAN Verification User' button.

3. Provide the PAN/TAN card details of the agency, if applicable, password details, PAN of the person who will act as the organization's communication details, principal contact, and digital signature certificate.

4. Then click the 'Submit' button.

5. Aside from that, the user performing bulk PAN verification must provide an authorization letter signed by the agency's head.

6. Following that, the PAN request will be evaluated, and approval will be granted upon receipt of all documents.

7. Following the evaluation, an email with the activation link and User ID details will be sent to the registered email address, assisting in the activation of an e-filing account.

8. To complete the process, the user must now login with a new User ID and the Password they registered.

How Can I Do Bulk PAN Verification Under The User Paying Model?

Only approved government and non-government organizations can use the User Pays Model for bulk PAN verification. The service is billed on an annual basis. It is a PAN verification process that is software-based. The registration fee for using this facility for bulk verification is Rs.12000, which includes 18% GST. This facility can be renewed on an annual basis. Renewal fees are the same as initial registration fees.

The best part about using this service is that each day, agencies receive a set number of free PAN verifications. If the verification request exceeds the limit, the user must pay separately for using the account created for the service provider.

If an agency uses the API-based or file and screen-based PAN verification service, it must keep a sufficient deposit against its User ID in order to verify the PAN numbers.
