A Guide On How To Do PAN Verification

The Income Tax Department (ITD) has authorized NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited (NSDL e-Gov) to launch an online PAN verification service for authorized entities to verify Permanent Account Numbers (PANs).

Remember: Entities must have more than 500 deductee/collectee counts displayed on Provisional receipts in a quarter to register under the category "Companies and Government Deductor (Required to file TDS/TCS return)." When applying for the Online PAN verification facility, deductor/collector counts will be verified.

PAN Verification Process

The PAN Verification service has three modes:

1. Screen based verification

2. File and Screen based Verification

3. Software (API) based verification

Screen based verification:

After logging in, users can enter up to five PANs in the provided screen. PANs can be entered into the boxes on the screen and then submitted. The response screen will display the response with PAN details.

File and Screen based Verification:

After logging in, users can upload a file containing up to 1000 PANs (file structure as specified by NSDL e-Gov). Within 24 hours, the site will make a response file containing PAN details available. If the file format is incorrect, the system will reject the file within 24 hours. The entity has up to 15 days to download the response at his leisure.

Software (API) based PAN verification:

This feature is an interface that allows the user to perform an online PAN verification by accessing the verification-site via a software application.

How To Verify Your Own PAN Details?

Users can also verify their own PAN details to ensure that it is latest and updated.

Step 1: Go to the e-Filing Portal at https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/.

Step 2: From the 'Quick Links' section, select the 'Verify Your PAN Details' hyperlink.

Step 3: Enter the PAN, Full Name (as it appears on the PAN), Date of Birth, and 'Status' as applicable.

Step 4: To verify your PAN details, enter the Captcha as shown in the image and click 'Submit.'

Documents Required For Online PAN Verification

Here is a list of documents to be submitted:

  • A letter of authorization on company letterhead.
  • Terms and conditions on business letterhead
  • PAN card copy of the entity It must be submitted in two copies and signed by an authorized entity.
  • Entity Declaration It must be submitted in two copies and signed by an authorized entity.
  • Certificate of Incorporation It must be submitted in two copies and signed by an authorized entity.
  • Copy of a license/certificate issued by the regulatory body. It must be submitted in two copies and signed by an authorized entity.
  • Cheque or Demand Draft for the applicable charges. The check or demand draft should be made payable to 'Protean eGov Technologies Limited – TIN'.
