PAN is set in the form of a 10-digit unique identification alphanumeric number (containing both alphabets and numbers) assigned to Indians, mainly to those who pay tax. Permanent Account Number or PAN is a mode of identifying taxpayers across the country.

Permanent Account Number or PAN Card is a nationalized identity card. Without a PAN, you will not be able to carry out any financial transaction. It is the Indian Income Tax Department that allocates this 10-digit alphanumeric and unique account number to a tax-paying person, company or HUF. It has lifetime validity. Know your PAN number by Name and DOB

PAN Cardholders can know their PAN number by simply entering Name and DOB on the official Income Tax website. While there’s no procedure by which you can check your PAN Card details using Name and Date of Birth, you can check your PAN Card details by verifying your PAN and by entering name and date of birth.  Follow the below-mentioned steps to verify your PAN Card:

  • Step 1: Visit e-Filing Home Page
  • Step 2:  Under the section “Quick Links” you need to click on ‘Verify your PAN Details’
  • Step 3: Now, enter your PAN, full name, date of birth
  • Step 4:  Select the status i.e., whether individual, Hindu undivided family, the association of persons, body of individuals, company, government, artificial juridical person, local authority, and firm or trust
  • Step5: Enter the “Captcha Code” for verification from the given box
  • Step 6: Click on “Submit” option. Alternately, if the PAN details provided are incorrect, you will see the following message:
  • Step 7: You will be redirected to a new page, and it will show “Your PAN is Active and the details are matching with PAN Database”

Know your PAN Card details from Income Tax Website

If an individual wants to know his/her PAN card details through Income Tax Website, they need to follow the steps mentioned below:

  • Step 1: Visit the official website i.e. e-Filing Home Page
  • Step 2: Click on “Register Yourself” or “Registered User” if you have already registered.
  • Step 3: Select your user type as applicable and click on “Continue”.
  • Step 4: Fill up the Registration Form and click on “Submit”.
  • Step 6: An activation link will be sent to the email address provided by you. Click on this link to activate your account.
  • Step 7: Log in to your account on the e-Filing website.
  • Step 8: Select “Profile Settings” and “My Account”.

  • Go to Playstore or Appstore and download Indian PAN Card app 
  • Open the app and click on Know Your PAN Details, which is located on the bottom of the homepage.
  • On the next page enter all the required details with mobile number 
  • An OTP will be delivered to your registered mobile number, enter the OTP and click on submit.
  • On the next page, you can see your PAN details such as Your PAN Card Number, Your First Name, Your Middle Name, Your Surname and PAN Jurisdiction Details.

Know your PAN Card Issue Date

While the PAN card issuance date is not relevant or essential for any verification phase, it is crucial to know specifically where the date of issue of the PAN card is on the PAN card.

The date of issue of the PAN is placed vertically on the right bottom half of the PAN card. The format of the date printed on the PAN Card is mentioned below.

For example, if the issuance date is 10/07/2020, it will be printed vertically on the PAN Card as 10072020.

1. Can I download my PAN Card?

Yes, you can download a soft cop, i.e. e-PAN card via the NSDL portal. Along with your Acknowledgement number and date of birth, you can visit the NSDL portal and download the card.

2. Is it necessary for me to give the date of issuance of my PAN Card for verification?

The date of issue of your PAN card is not required for any of the verification processes, however, you need to know where your PAN issue date is on the card. The issue date of your PAN card will be located vertically on the right bottom of the card.

3. Will my PAN card number change if I make a change in my name?

No, your PAN will remain the same even if there is a change in your name as it is a Permanent Account Number.

You will not be able to file your ITR if you do not present your PAN. All bank accounts not linked with PAN will be deactivated soon. Also, it is necessary to furnish PAN for making cash transactions above Rs 50,000.
