Have you ever made changes to your KYC details stored in your Aadhaar card? If yes, then you can track all the updates made to your Aadhaar number since its generation quite easily. Here, in this guide, we give you step-by-step instructions on how to view your Aadhaar update history and why it matters.

In July of 2018, UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) sent a tweet saying that Aadhaar users who have registered their mobile numbers could check their Aadhaar update history online.

How to check Aadhaar update history

As you probably know, Aadhaar is a 12-digit personal identification number issued by the UIDAI to all Indian citizens and Indian residents. The update history shows all updates made to the data stored in the Aadhaar number, since its generation.

Aadhaar number holders can make several updates to their data like – changing the address, mobile number, email id, date of birth, and gender. Users can track and monitor these changes by logging into the official website of UIDAI.


Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you:

Step 1:

Head to the official website of UIDAI –www.uidai.gov.in

Step 2:

Click on My Aadhaar Update your Aadhaar Aadhaar update history.

Step 3:

Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number or VID (if you have generated it). Enter the security code displayed. If you are not able to understand the code, you can click on the “Try Another” option to generate a new code.

Step 4:

Click on send OTP to receive the one-time-password on your registered mobile number. Or you can click on TOTP to generate it using the mAadhaar app.

Step 5:

Enter the OTP and click submit. Note that the OTP is valid only for ten minutes, after which you will have to generate a new OTP.

Step 6:

Once you click on submit, you will be able to get the history of updates made to your Aadhaar card.


Here are the details that you can check using the Aadhaar update history service.

URN (Update Request Number)

It is a unique number that is assigned to each Aadhaar cardholder. The URN is generated every time you request an update. To give an example, if you have placed a request to update your mobile number, you will be assigned a URN. Similarly, when you update your address, you will receive another URN. Using the URN, you can track the status of the update.

Date of Update

It is the date when you have placed the request for updates to your Aadhaar number.

Type of Update

It can be any of the following: new Aadhaar update request, biometric or demographic

Photo of the cardholder

While checking your Aadhaar update history, the photo that was taken at the time of Aadhaar card generation is displayed on the screen to confirm your identity.

Demographic Details

All demographic details stored in your card are listed on the screen. This includes your name, date of birth, gender, contact number, email id, and address.

Date and Time

You can see the date and time when you have checked the Aadhaar update history is also displayed on the screen.


  • This feature is available only online. You cannot access your Aadhaar update history by visiting an Aadhaar enrolment centre in your neighbourhood.
  • You can get a list of all the changes you have made to your Aadhaar card since the time, your card was issued to you.
  • You can use either your 12-digit Aadhar number or the 16-digit VID to access this service.
  • Only you can check this facility. Others cannot access your Aadhaar update history.

You can verify and confirm that there are no inaccuracies in the data stored in your Aadhaar card. If you come across any wrong information or spelling errors, report it to UIDAI immediately to rectify it.

Additionally, you can also keep track of the various demographic changes you have made over the years.


1. Can I download the information from the Aadhaar update history?

No. It’s available only for online viewing.

2. I haven’t registered my mobile number with my Aadhaar number. Will I be able to check my update history?

No. This facility is available only to users who have linked their mobile number with their Aadhaar card. Make sure to register your mobile number first to access this service and other key services provided by UIDAI.

3. Is my Aadhaar update history safe?

Yes. Only you can access it, as you need to input your 12-digit unique Aadhaar number, as well as the OTP, sent to your mobile. Others cannot access your details.

4. I want to share the details of my Aadhaar update history with my employer. How can I do it?

Currently, UIDAI does not offer a download facility of the Aadhaar update history. You can only view it online. If required, you can take a screenshot of your history and share it with others.

5. What’s the benefit of this service?

One – It helps you keep track of all demographic changes you have made over the years. Two – You can use it as a proof of residence, to show that you have stayed in a particular address for this many years and so on.
