The Aadhaar card was introduced by the Government of India for the fellow residents which will be given after satisfying the verification process done by the UIDAI. Since then Aadhaar is used as one of the primary identification documents by the citizens. The Government of India has made it mandatory to link most of the services rendered to Aadhaar. People can provide Aadhaar as the sole document as ID proof, Address proof, Date of birth, etc. An individual can enrol for Aadhaar only once. As part of Digital India, the Government will urge the residents to link Aadhaar to many services and one among them will be the Driving License.

The first thing you need to find is your state’s website and link your Aadhaar card with the Driving license by following some simple steps. They are

  • Visit the relevant road transport corporation website which has issued your driving license
  • In the website, you will see a ‘LINK AADHAR’ box. Click on it
  • Once you click the bar, you will be able to see a drop-down menu
  • Select driving license option from the drop-down box
  • Enter the driving license details such as the license number
  • Your driving license details will pop up in the screen
  • Below the details, there will be another box which will have two blank spaces namely Aadhaar Number and Mobile Number
  • Provide your 12-digit Aadhaar card number and enter your registered mobile number with Aadhaar
  • Verify all the details and then click on submit/proceed
  • As part of verification, an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
  • You need to enter the OTP to the box provided and then click on submit
  • Once the OTP verification is completed, your Aadhaar will be linked to the driving license.

There are many advantages once the Aadhaar card is linked with one’s driving licence. They are:

  • It enables data verification
  • It will be easy for the authorised authorities to find out fake licences and eventually can put a stop to the issuance of the fake licenses
  • If the Aadhaar is linked to the driving license, the authorised people can verify the details of the vehicle owner irrespective of the state they live
  • If in case anyone holds more than one licence, then the authorities can find out the forged documents and they can take necessary action to stop the forgery
  • If the Aadhaar gets linked to the driving license, then the authorities can maintain a central database with the details of all the drivers in the country. This will help in preventing the renewal of duplicate licenses.
  • By linking Aadhaar with driving license, the authorities can have more transparency in the system.
  • The authorities can handle the department related queries quickly and hassle-free.
