In 2009, the Government of India launched a 12-digit unique identity number for the residents of India. This number was generated on the basis of the demographic and biometric data collected from the residents. By 2015, Aadhaar has emerged as one of the primary identity verification documents in India. The government of India has released statements asking the residents to link the Aadhaar to various services such as Banking, LPG, Telecom, Marriage websites, Tourism, Travel, etc. In case of LPG’s if you want to get the subsidy given by the Government of India, then you need to link your Aadhaar to the LPG gas connection.

In India, there are three major petroleum companies. They are-

  • Indian Oil Corporation ( IOCL)
  • Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL)
  • Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL)

All the other petroleum companies are managed by one of the above. So when you plan to link your Aadhaar number to your LPG, first find out under which one of the three, comes your LPG Company.


There are three different ways to link Aadhaar to LPG. They are

  • Link through SMS/IVRS
  • Link through Post
  • Link through a Call centre

  • IVRS or Interactive Voice Response System has been developed by the LPG service providers so that the customers can easily link their Aadhaar to LPG without any difficulties. Every district has its own IVRS number and instructions as to how to link the Aadhaar to LPG.
  • Indane Customers can log in to the official website of Indane, which is http://indane.co.in/sms_ivrs.php and find the IVRS number and follow the instructions to link the LPG to Aadhaar. If the customers want to use SMS to link the Aadhaar to LPG then they can do so by sending the SMS in the format mentioned in the website.
  • Hindustan Petroleum Customers can visit the official website and get the IVRS number and can call for instructions for linking purpose. The official website is http://www.hindustanpetroleum.com/hpanytime. If the customers want to use SMS to link the Aadhaar to LPG then they do so by sending the SMS in the format HP ANY TIME No. e.g. for State KL 1234567890.
  • The Bharat Gas customers can link their Aadhaar to LPG by visiting the official website https://www.ebharatgas.com/ebharat/forHome/IVRS.html and then collect the IVRS number for the instructions to link the Aadhaar. If the customers want to use SMS to link the Aadhaar to LPG they can do so by sending an SMS to 57333 (All India), 52725 (Vodafone, MTNL, Idea, Airtel & Tata users)
  • Before sending SMS to the respective oil company, make sure that you have registered your phone number with the same. If you have not registered the phone number yet, then follow the below instructions.

The Government of India allows you to link your Aadhaar via post. For this, you need to send a speed post with a copy of your Aadhaar letter, consumer number, your name, address, and the mobile number to the relevant office address of your LPG Company. You can get the addresses of your LPG Company from their official websites.

The customers should make sure to have a copy of the below, before submission of the Aadhaar letter

  • Photo Copy of Aadhaar Card
  • Address Proof (Required only in case of your present LPG delivery address is different from the address in Aadhaar Card)
  • Photo Copy of the First page of DGCC / Blue Book or recent delivery receipt
  • The details asked in points 1 to 6 in "Aadhaar Registration Sheet"

1. Why should I link my Aadhaar with LPG?

You should link the Aadhaar to LPG to receive the LPG subsidy. LPG subsidy means receiving the LPG cylinder at a reduced price.

2. Is it mandatory to link the Aadhaar with LPG?

The Government of India has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar with LPG. If the customer fails to link they will not be eligible to get the subsidy.

3. How many cylinders can one get at a subsidised rate?

A customer can get 12 cylinders a year at a subsidised rate if their Aadhaar is linked to LPG.
