As per the directive by the government of India, all existing customers of Airtel, must link their mobile number with their Aadhaar card to keep their mobile connection active.

If you are wondering whether this is a complicated procedure involving extensive documentation, then rest easy. The entire process gets completed online and within a few minutes. Here, in this guide, we give you step-by-step assistance to link Airtel mobile numbers with Aadhaar.

The main reason for this move is to eradicate mobile connections that have been purchased with fake id proofs. By linking the mobile number with the Aadhaar, the government could easily shut down fake mobile connections.

All Airtel customers – both prepaid and postpaid – have to link their mobiles with their Aadhaar. If you have multiple mobile connections, then all these numbers should be linked to your Aadhaar to remain active.

Airtel offers three simple ways to link mobile numbers with Aadhaar. They are:

Airtel Mobile Numbers with Aadhaar

Method 1: Link your Airtel mobile number to your Aadhaar via OTP

This method is available only to customers who have registered their phone number with their Aadhaar. If you have not registered your mobile number while filling your Aadhaar form, then you cannot use this option. You have to visit your nearby Airtel customer service store for re-verification and linking.

Using this method, you can link your Airtel number and Aadhaar in just a few minutes, right from the comforts of your home. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Call 14546, (toll-free number) using your Airtel mobile.
  • Choose your residency – Indian or NRI.
  • Press 1 (for resident Indian) and state your consent to link your mobile number using your Aadhaar.
  • You will be prompted to enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.
  • Once you have entered and verified your Aadhaar number, Airtel sends an OTP to your mobile.
  • Give your consent to the operator to gather your name, date of birth, and photo from UIDAI (Aadhaar) records.
  • The IVR voice recording will read out the last four digits of your Airtel number.
  • Check if the mobile number in the record is correct, and then key in the OTP received.
  • Complete the re-verification process.

That’s it. Your Airtel mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar. You have completed it quickly and within a few minutes.

Method 2: Link your Airtel mobile number to your Aadhaar via IVR

The government of India has instructed mobile operators to make it convenient for customers to link their mobile numbers with their Aadhaar by offering them multiple methods. One such method is linking using the IVR facility.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Dial the toll-free number 14546 using your Airtel mobile.
  • You will be prompted to enter your 12-digit UID (Aadhaar number).
  • Confirm your request to link your mobile number with Aadhaar.
  • Your call will get disconnected once your request is accepted.
  • You will receive an SMS once your mobile number has been successfully linked with your Aadhaar.

Method 3: Link your Airtel mobile number to your Aadhaar by visiting an Airtel Store

If you haven’t registered your mobile with your Aadhaar, then this is the method you will have to take.

  • Visit an Airtel store in your neighbourhood.
  • Carry a photocopy of the Aadhaar, along with the original.
  • State your mobile number to the concerned person and state your request.
  • You will receive an OTP via SMS.
  • Once you provide the OTP to the executive, you will be asked to provide your biometric data – your thumb impressions.
  • The process is then started, and you will get confirmation within twenty-four hours.
  • Reply “Y” to the SMS to finish the linking process.
