Aadhaar was implemented by the Government of India with the object of having a single system for citizens identification across the country across various services. Many services across the country, like bank accounts, mutual funds, insurance policies, mobile connections and similar services, accept Aadhaar as an identification document to avail their services. This article aims at educating users on how to link their Aadhaar with their SBI Life Insurance policies.

IRDAI has clarified that it is mandatory to link Aadhaar with insurance policies under the ‘Prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017’. With the introduction of Aadhaar, the Government claims a huge decrease in fraudulent transactions. Though there is still speculation on making Aadhaar mandatory for all services, citizens consider Aadhaar as a convenient form of identification document.

New applicants are mandated to quote their Aadhaar number & PAN while filling up the proposal form. It is mandatory to quote your PAN for policies where the annual premium exceeds Rs.50,000. Existing customers of SBI Life Insurance Co. can conveniently link their Aadhaar & PAN with their policies online or offline.


  • Existing customers are requested to register on the SBI Life CSS portal called ‘My Policy’ at this link -https://mypolicy.sbilife.co.in/ You will be asked to input your Customer ID, Policy Number, registered email ID & Date of Birth for verification purposes.
  • Once you have created an account, you can update your Aadhaar number under the profile section.
  • Existing customers can login to their account and update the details under their profile section.

  • If you do not have access to internet, you can visit the nearest branch of SBI Life Insurance Co. to link your Aadhaar. At the branch ask for a ‘Change/Updation in Customer Details’ form.   • Duly fill the form and attach a self-attested copy of the Aadhaar card.
  • Upon successful verification of the details, the company shall link your Aadhaar and insurance policy and will update you via email/SMS.

1. What are the documents required to link Aadhaar with my SBI Life Insurance policy?

Customers will just require their SBI Life Insurance policy number, their Customer ID, their Aadhaar card and PAN card for the linking.

2. Where can I find my SBI Life Insurance Customer ID?

The Customer ID will be printed on your SBI Life policy document.

3. Is PAN mandatory for purchase of insurance policy with SBI Life?

Yes, for policies with an annual premium more than Rs.50,000, PAN is mandatory.
