Aadhaar card requires little introduction considering it is one of the most important identity proof issued by the Government of India. It contains both demographic as well as biometric data of the cardholder.

Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued to Indian Citizens by the central government. Aadhaar is governed and issued by UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India). It is designed to record and verify every resident Indian citizen’s details such as name, address, contact details, photo, and biometric details.

If you own an Aadhaar card, there may be situations where you may be required to update your details in Aadhaar. It is a good practise to keep any government document up-to-date and hence, if there are any changes, the same should be updated. If you need to make any changes in the Aadhaar card, then these can be done through Self Service Update Portal (SSUP) or by visiting the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre located in your area. The nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre can be found out on official UIDAI website.


You can get your details in Aadhaar changed or updated by visiting the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre. Below are the steps to be followed in order to change the photo in Aadhaar card:

Via Enrolment Centre:

  • Find out the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra on official UIDAI website.
  • You can also download the Aadhaar Enrolment Form from UIDAI’s website.
  • Fill the enrolment form and take to the nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre.
  • You can submit the form to the centre executive and also provide your biometric details.
  • To update your photo, the centre executive will take your live photo on the camera.
  • Biometrics have to be provided to verify and approve your details.
  • An administrative fee of Rs. 25 + GST will have to be paid to get the Aadhaar details updated.
  • You can use the URN (Update Request Number) to check the status of the update.
  • You can download the updated Aadhaar card online, once the process of update is complete.

Via Post:

  • Download the ‘Aadhaar card update correction’ form from UIDAI portal.
  • Appropriately fill in your demographic details.
  • Write an application addressed to the UIDAI regional office, requesting for photo change. Send the form along with your application.
  • Attach a self-attested copy of your recent photograph along with the updated form and the application.
  • Send these documents via post to UIDAI Regional Office on the address given in the official website of UIDAI for your respective zone.
  • You will receive your updated Aadhaar card with changed photograph within two weeks of submitting your request.


In case you want to download your Aadhaar card, you can download the same here from the official UIDAI website. For downloading your E-Aadhaar you can follow below-mentioned steps:

Step 1

  • On the website, go to your Personal Details section and select the required option from either ‘I have ‘Enrolment ID’ or ‘Aadhaar’’. Select the detail that you have available with you such as enrolment ID which can be found on the acknowledgement slip provided at the time of application.
  • Alternatively, you can fill in the Aadhaar No. you received.
  • In case you select the ‘Enrolment Id’ option, then you will be required to provide the 14-digit Enrolment no. with date stamp in the first row. In case you choose ‘Aadhaar’, you will have to enter your 12-digit Aadhaar no.
  • Next, you will need to fill in your Full Name. The name mentioned by you should be similar to the one mentioned while registering for Aadhaar.
  • Next row requires the PIN Code of the postal address you filled while registering for Aadhaar.
  • You will then need to fill the image text required.
  • Mention your mobile no. This mobile contact should be the same as mentioned while registering for Aadhaar card.
  • Lastly, you can go to ‘Get One Time Password’. You will get an OTP on your registered mobile no.

Step 2

  • Enter OTP that you may have received and go to your take E-Aadhaar section, input the received OTP on your registered mobile no.
  • After this, you are required to click on the “Validate and Download” option.
  • Post this, your E-Aadhaar will be generated in a PDF file version which can be downloaded easily.


  • You will not be required to submit any documents for changing the photo in Aadhaar card.
  • If you are making a request at an enrolment centre, the executive clicks the photograph on the spot using the webcam, hence you don’t need to submit any photograph from your end.
  • It may take up to 90 days to get the details updated in Aadhaar.
  • You can check the Aadhaar update status online using the URN provided in the Acknowledgement Slip.
  • There is no online process to change the photo in Aadhar card through the Self-Service Update Portal (SSUP).
