Restoration benefit is a type of health insurance benefit, where the insurer restores the original sum insured after it gets fully exhausted for the treatment of the illnesses. So, even if you consume the complete total insured, you don't have to worry if you’ve got the restore benefit added to your health plan. If you've got this profit your insurance company will restore the complete quantity and you can use the refreshed sum assured for future treatments.

Let’s explain restoration benefit with an example - Mr. Ravi has a health policy of Rs 4 lakhs with restoration benefits. He had to undergo a surgery and also the entire total insured of Rs four lakhs gets exhausted.

A few months later, Mr. Ravi was diagnosed with cancer that needed surgery costing around Rs 2 lakhs. The insurance company will cover this latest medical expense, even though Mr. Ravi has exhausted the sum assured. This is because of the restoration benefit available on his plan.

Is restoration benefit essential?

It depends. If you have a family history of frequent illnesses or if your medical condition requires multiple surgeries, etc, then opting for restoration benefit on your health plan is a wise call.

For family floater plans, it is a valuable add-on to own. If one among the members has exhausted the bottom cover, alternative members can still enjoy the cover. If you would like most coverage at the smallest amount value, ensure the restoration benefit is added to your insurance policy.
