Punjab National Bank Debit Card

Digitization is an aftermath of demonetization, one of the core objectives of demonetization was to transform India into a cashless economy. While this was achieved to some extent, the basic premise which allowed creation of a digitized economy was the issuance of plastic cards. While both debit and credit cards have been around for long, they are being used to their optimal potential with the advent of online shopping and ATM centers. Debit cards have increased the accessibility to cash in savings / current accounts manifold. They have also lightened the wallets for individuals, given that they promote not carrying cash.

What is a Debit Card?

Debit card is a plastic card which provides access to cash held in the account. Debit card can be used at the respective bank’s ATM. The card holder can conduct cash withdrawals, balance enquires and extract mini statement. The debit card also provides the privilege of making online payments for purchases across various merchant outlets. The amount will be debited from the cardholder’s savings account or current account. Using the debit card at the ATM, the cardholder can transfer funds through ATM to another self-account or any other PNB account. The account holder can also transfer / receive funds to / from any Mastercard / Maestro card holder of other selected banks.

Types of Debit Cards issued by Punjab National Bank

The bank is currently issuing the below types of debit cards –

  • PIN based Debit Card (Maestro card)
  • Signature based Classic Debit card (Master card)
  • Signature based Gold Debit card with photo (Master card)
  • PNB Platinum Debit Card
  • Mitra ATM Card

PIN based Debit Card

PIN stands for personal identification number which is a unique 4-digit number that allows one to access the bank account through debit card or ATMs. The PIN is kept confidential.

Signature based Classic Debit card

This has the customer’s signature on the back of the card, the customer has to sign the invoice every-time the card is swiped. Typically, the merchant has to verify the signature to ensure it matches with the sign on the back of the debit card.

Signature based Gold Debit card with photo

This is a signature-based card which is personalized with the photo of the account holder. The merchant can verify the owner by means of the photo. It is an additional personalization effort by PNB.

PNB Platinum Debit Card – There are two variants in this – RuPay and Master Card. This debit card also provides accidental and disability insurance for the card holder.

Platinum Debit Card

There are two variants under this card such as RuPay and Master. The cash withdrawal limit per day is restricted to Rs. 50,000. The cash withdrawal limit for one time is restricted to Rs. 15,000. The E-com / Point of sale consolidated limit is Rs. 1.25 Lakh. The accidental/disability insurance provides cover to the extent of Rs.2 Lakh.

Classic Debit Card

There are two variants under Classic Debit Card such as RuPay and Master. Personalized and Non Personalized debit card can be issued. The cash withdrawal limit per day is restricted to Rs. 25,000. The cash withdrawal limit for one time is restricted to Rs. 15,000. The E-com / Point of sale consolidated limit is Rs.60,000. The accidental / disability insurance provides cover to the extent of Rs. 50,000.

PNB Business Debit Cards for corporate customers

Eligibility :

  • Business debit card can be issued to corporate clients even who are not listed in any of the stock exchanges of the country
  • Card can be issued to authorized corporate person only, that is holding proper mandate from the company to make transaction through ATM/ PoS/ E- com and that mandate must be incorporated in the resolution of the company
  • Authorized person to use the card must also be the authorized signatory of the respective account
  • Card can be issued to Sole proprietorship, Partnership concerns and Public/ Private limited company
  • Debit card is to be attached with the current account of the company
  • Current account should be maintained with minimum QAB of Rs.1 Lakh

Main Features :

  • Personalized card - card holder’s name and photo or company logo can be printed.
  • This is acceptable in India as well as outside India.
  • Transaction limit -
    • Cash withdrawals at ATMs : Upto Rs. 1,00,000/- per day.
    • POS/E-com (combined) transactions : Upto Rs. 3,00,000/- per day.
  • Card issuance charge - Rs. 200/ card. Respective circle head may waive the issuance charge as per their discretion.
  • Annual charge - Rs. 200/- + taxes. It would be levied on each card after one year.
  • Card replacement charge - Rs. 200 + taxes.
  • Card validity is upto - 7 years.
  • Rewards points - One Loyalty Rewardz points, for every Rs. 100 spend over PoS/E-com

RuPay International Debit Card

Bank has launched RuPay EMV chip-based debit card especially for customers who visit overseas. The card has an extra security feature which ensures that there is no fraudulent transaction conducted due to misplacement or loss of card.

  • Rs. 50,000/- at ATMs for cash withdrawal.
  • Rs.1, 25,000 at POS/E-commerce (combined).
  • Personal Accident Death Insurance of Rs. 2 lacs.
  • Permanent total Disability Insurance of Rs. 2 lacs.
  • RuPay Platinum Domestic Airport lounge access program provides access to the participating lounges two (2) times per calendar quarter per card

Note: There is no limit on number of transactions per day within daily transaction limit.

(1) How to apply for debit card from Punjab National Bank?

Debit card can be obtained from any CBS branch of PNB (irrespective of account maintaining branch) by filling a debit card application form. In case of Non-Personalized card (without name) the card would be issued instantly. In case of Personalized card (with name) the card would be issued in 7-8 working days.

(2) What is the customer care contact that one should reach out to for debit card related queries?

1800 180 2222 (Toll free) number is available 24 X7 for all debit card related issues. Incase, of loss of debit card, the cardholder can de-activate or hot-list the card.

(3) How does the debit card work?

Insert your debit card in ATM and follow the instructions displayed on the screen. On POS the cardholder has to swipe the card and sign the bill after verifying the amount.
