Generally, most credit card issuers do not automatically close a card, if it has not been used for extended periods. Even if you have not used your card for a long time, say 2 - 3 years, the card issuer will first send you a notification regarding inactivity, asking you to make use of your card. Note that the threshold for the period of inactivity varies from one card issuer to another.

Deactivating an existing card is a loss of business for the card issuer. So most card issuers do not deactivate cards for inactivity, as long as the cardholder pays the annual fees and other charges.

We recommend using your credit card responsibly and regularly to make use of the several benefits on it. Furthermore, regular usage of a credit card is a great way to boost your credit score.
