HDFC Bank FASTag Introduction

Starting 15th December 2019, the Government has made it mandatory for all vehicles to make toll payments using FASTag at all toll booth counters across the country. The primary reason being cited for transitioning to FASTags is to reduce the current wait time in toll booths.

Currently 22 banks and POS counters in National Highway toll booths are issuing these FASTags. HDFC Bank allows its customers to purchase FASTags on their official website. It allows customers to link their HDFC Bank SB Account with the FASTag for direct debit of the toll payment.

What is FASTag?

Hdfc Bank Fastag

The FASTag is issued in the form of a sticker with a magnetic strip and it uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). It will have to be pasted on the top centre of the windscreen of the car. This will allow travellers and commercial vehicles to cross the toll booths without waiting at the counter to pay the toll fee.

National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is all geared up to make collection of tolls completely electronic. The government has made it compulsory for all vehicle owners to use FASTags to make electronic toll payments and not cash payments that will draw fines from 15th December.

HDFC Bank has implemented this FASTag program a part of the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) initiative rolled out by NPCI under the guidelines of NHAI and IHMCL.

How HDFC Bank's FASTag works?

HDFC Bank FASTag is linked to a prepaid account from which the toll amount is automatically deducted every time you use a toll. The sticker uses RFID which is read by the scanner at the toll booth and you are allowed to pass through the toll once your details are read and verified.
